Trading Goff prior to June 1 would create $12.75M in cap space ... and that would pretty much be eaten up by signing Marriotta. IOW, trading Goff and signing Marriotta wouldn't help the Rams sign any of their free agents.
Trading Goff after June 1 gives the Rams more cap space in 2021 ($28.15M) but by then it's certainly too late to sign their own FAs. And this strategy also adds $15.4M in dead money to the 2022 cap, making it that much harder for the Rams to sign FAs next season.
