So why do you think it hasn't been?
There has to be a reason, right?
This specific player/coach dynamic has changed. I'd love to know why. (I have my theories, but thats all I have)
And I don't buy the immature coach thing. You don't become the youngest HC ever or whatever without having a degree of maturity to you.
While McVay has had his mistakes, I don’t blame him for the bulk of the O problems because he’s trying to cope with a deteriorating QB situation.
Since you asked, here’s what I think...
I think Goff’s problem is between his ears.
I think his self confidence has been badly damaged.
I think that those who say that the deep throws are still there but Goff is unwilling to throw them are correct.
I think that Goff kinda panics sometimes and becomes indecisive due to fear of failure, which only leads to throws behind wide open receivers, sacks, and turnovers.
I think that opposing D’s see all this and creep up knowing that they don’t have to defend deep as they used to which only magnifies Goff’s problems.
I think that McVay has done his best to help Goff through this long 41 game regression but is now at the end of his rope.
Finally, I think McVay is probably preparing for a change at QB. And I can’t blame him.
As an aside, where, oh where is that Goff of ‘18 in the Chiefs and Vikings games? THAT QB is worth $134M.
Goff week 13 against the cards averaged 3.5 intended air yards. 3rd lowest by any QB all season. Wolford 4 weeks later against the same team averaged 10.2 intended air yards. Wolford was willing to push the ball down the field. Goff just is not willing to right now. Now Goff had a very good game, but it does provide some proof that McVay still has the deep game in his offense. Read the article if you haven't:

Its weird with Goff because I just cannot get a read on him. Maybe its that California cool thing he has going like 21Dog lol. But he is tough, he has proven that, he wants to play and compete, he has also proven that. So where is his confidence to push the ball down the field? Minn or KC Goff sure would. And they all weren't to a speedster WR either.
I miss that Goff too.
