First they are after all of the 3rd round player comp picks. Second it is not clear what the order of these picks will be. Is it based on first hired, team records of the team losing a coach or exec, or random? As it stands two gms already fit the rule with NO the other team getting a 3rd. Likely there will be a few African American head coaches hired this cycle too which will increase the number of comp picks.
The other big issue is whether the 32 total comp picks rule includes these picks or not. If so, smart teams will factor that into the offers they make to fa signings. According to overthecap there were over 40 possible comp picks for players this year so many were cancelled. If say there were four or five coach/exec picks this year, then next year starts with 4 or 5 and then increases based on the number of minority coaches and execs hired in 2022. How the NFL and NFLPA work this out will be interesting. Drafted players have bigger contracts and bonuses but less freedom than UDFA. Will the NFLPA want a few more players at the end of the draft to be drafted or to have the ability to pick their teams?
