I have thought this since the Rams drafted him. In interviews or just on his face he does not appear very intelligent. I was hopeful his experience, toughness and drive would overcome what I believe are his mental shortcomings but the more I have watched over the years, the more I think you are correct. He's just not that smart and never will be. And he can't overcome it with sheer athletic talent.
When you don't know which direction the sun rises I'm not sure you will ever meet the intellectual requirements to consistently be a winning QB in the NFL.
