I understand the severity of the case count and hospitalizations we're experiencing and the hardest hit are the medical staffs on the front line, but what does an empty stadium NFL game have to do with any of this? Do they have tracing data that shows super spreader events at Sofi on game day?
Why do some of these orders seem to defy reason, and sometimes science?
I'm not so sure that an "empty stadium NFL game" has anything to do with this.
As you may (or may not) be aware, LA County came under a "Safer-at-Home" public health order that put in place restrictions designed to significantly reduce the amount of gatherings of people outside of one's own household. I believe that close-quarters person-to-person interaction without mask-wearing is the likely source of transmission of the virus. But I thought I had read something indicating that professional sports are exempted from this.
Now, the Rams practice in Ventura Co. which doesn't have this type of public health order. But, with the way ICU beds are filling up in the SoCal region, they'll come under the state order. And, it's unclear if the state order will have limits on gatherings.
As to Rampage's point...
I really think that the NFL took the cheap way out of things by not putting teams into "the bubble." The NBA did it and had ZERO positive infections amongst players and staff. That was the way to go.
