This seems like a cherry picking political debate only focusing on the extremes instead of rationallly evaluating the entire body of work and it bugs the hell out of me.
Some games Goff looks exceptional while he completes over a dozen passes in a row and often maneuvering well in the pocket and splitting tight windows. Some games he looks lost in space. There are more of the former than the latter though the losses always hurt more and leave a mark.
Brett Favre threw 6 interceptions to the Rams in the 2002 playoffs. Cherry pick that one. Should it define his legacy?
Goff has many excellent qualities and a few genuine limitations. He's a better than average QB by most metrics. I just don't see the persistent need to whine about it.
Finally, before the Bucs game I publicly worried here about how this team loses focus after big wins and PREDICTED if they beat the Bucs, they'd drop one against the 9'ers or Cards. And Goff wasn't the only one. The running game fizzled every bit as badly.
But this team has the ability to run the table if they play to 90% of their capability. Let's see what kind of focus they can sustain. If they do...I'm calling many here out for making it all about the awful QB you abandoned.
I hear what you're saying and appreciate your position but my perspective is different.
As you say sometimes Goff does look exceptional and sometimes he looks lost. In my perception though, the times he looks exceptional are not frequent. It doesn't feel to me that there are more exceptional moments than lost moments. To me, it seems like the exceptional moments and lost moments are about equal. Most of the time, he's not doing super great or super bad; most of the time he looks average.
If I had to put a number on it, I'd say that roughly 40% of the time he looks average, 30% he looks exceptional, and 30% he looks lost. And it's that inconsistency that is troubling.
What metrics are you looking at that says he's better than average? And over what time period? Since the end of 2018, I think most metrics have him solidly in the average category.
I do agree that the team has the ability to run the table if they play up to their capabilities.
