Eli is a good example of the non-elite QB who wins a SB. But he had one special quality: he was super clutch.
His performances would go up in the playoffs and SB. He played above his normal level. If not for that, he would never have won anything.
If not for that, I wouldn't build a team around Eli.
Overall, trying to win with a non-elite type - someone where all you're asking is for them to not turn the ball over or try to do too much - is too hard.
Well then the thing to do is just grab one of the many always available elite types.
That's one take away.
Another is where you pick up a Nick Foles or Jameis Winston type for $5 - $8M and/or bring in a QB on a rookie contract instead of paying $35M for the average, non-elite starter.
With the cost of QBs, I'm surprised teams aren't drafting them every year.
Those guys aren't winning though.
And it's a matter of opinion that Goff "is average," an opinion I don't share.
My view at least avoids the deeper problem, which is that Rams coaches and management somehow didn't recognize the guy they were extending on a typical qb 2nd contract was only "average." That's a pretty monumental mistake, and the same coaches and management people are going to be around for a while.

It's because he's not average and was top 5 QB in back to back years in 2017-2018 and took this team to a Super Bowl by outplaying a HoF'er in the NFC Championship game in one of the hardest places to win a game.....Kurt doesn't think he's average either.... "very good starter" just not elite and said there has been very few of those throughout the history of the NFL
II think the Rams need to try to recapture what they had in 2017-2018 but we don't have a true take the top off the defense WR and TG3 anymore.... it's time to let the two top draft picks this year get some playing time and see if they can help getting somewhere close to that.
