Van Jefferson was another unnecessary forced pick by Snead. I know, I know, Snead so brilliantly looks ahead to see when we will need players to step into starting lineups, so drafts these positions 2 years before necessary so they can step right in and contribute in year 2. I'm still waiting for the strategy to actually work.
I think it's fair to assume Jefferson was drafted because we thought we'd be losing either/both Woods & Kupp. Since we managed to re-sign both, the only time he'll see the field is when one of those two needs a breather. Unfortunately he's redundant in regard to his skills.
Was the pick forced? Probably depends on your definition, but yeah, you could say that the expiring contracts forced Snead's pick. But on the other hand we'd be looking silly if we lost one or both of our starting WR's in '21 with no one to fill the void.
I suspect we'll still be looking for top end speed next offseason via draft/trade/free agency because I don't think Jefferson has that Cooks/Watkins speed.
