Lande asks the question, will Goff ever get it? He needs to or every team that has a good defense will beat him by attacking this fatal weakness in his game. We just can’t say, hey its good enough to beat all the teams without a good defense. That gets you to 9-7, maybe a WC, and you’re swiftly out of the playoffs. Is that what we are satisfied with? Not me.
This last point is crucial and why I'm very concerned despite Goff being very good most of the time.
It may be true he's only weak against strong defenses but in the playoffs we're apt to play teams that fit that description.
Goff has performed well against good defenses.
And Goff has come through against teams that bring pressure.
Now before someone tries to rush in here and pretend I said "always" in each case...no. That kind of "forget nuance this is sides-taking" thing doesn't get us to real analysis.
I am saying it is not as badly or as baldly categorical as it is sometimes made out to be.
So whatever threads might unite all the bad games across 4 years, starting in 2017, it ISN'T "he always plays badly against good defenses" OR " he always succumbs to pressure." Those things are just not true statements.
