Those slants and shallow crossers are blitz-beaters 101....that's how Goff threw the pick to the DT in a zone drop....the one time Goff DID throw a slant...he threw it blindly. imo Goff looked very unaware and lacked urgency...I agree with McVay...but in watching the game I also saw that many routes had one slant WR running open, but Goff had already decided to throw the other way...and there's NO TIME to have a 2nd read when blitzed...it's 1, 2 throw....or you get hit.
Anyway, it's on both McVay for not running more and really telling Goff to step up his HOT/blitz/reads and get the ball out...and on McVay for not running more off tackle away from the blitzers and demanding more blitz-beaters.....so I'm disappointed in both guys, quite frankly!!
The can do better and will. imo
Bad games happen every year...where we freak out & wonder if our team is even a 8-8 team.....it's okay.
Bad games happen just like BAD days at work for all of us. It ain't nuthin but a thang...
and it's best to learn what you can & move on.
NOTE: Our defense is really trending up....and I think it will really help us once we start getting more consistent on offense(which, you may remember is the strength of the team - supposedly...so the future looks brighter than darker. imo )
I agree with every word of that.
It's getting to be this McVay thing where every now and then, they're less urgent and alert during a game than they need to be. I wonder about that at times. That's aside from and on top of the playcalling issues that have to do with getting stuck in ruts.
