One concern I have against better defenses are the "easy" passes that McVay has used to get Goff off to efficient starts. Those short passes and bootlegs that gave Goff easy reads and short, easy completions that turned into consistent medium gains are not something that I consider "real". They are great for the stat sheet and even for generating points and leads but they aren't something that playoff caliber defenses are just going to give away.
So, when you use them as a real bread and butter to your success, it becomes very deceptive. It makes it look like the offense and Goff are performing much better than they really are. I am still concerned about what this team can do when it has to rely on execution and outplaying the opponent rather than scheme and trickery.
This offense in general has some design flaws IMO, as evidenced by both Rodgers and Goff being stymied last Sunday. It's great with the right matchup but I have my doubts when the defense shows up with a good gameplan. The first Chicago game, the SB, last week...I realize an offense can't always look great but I don't like how some defenses can seem to completely neutralize us. There should always be a plan B that we can adjust to. But it doesn't seem to be the case.
