I have little doubt that Brown will start game 1, with Henderson next up and Akers 3rd. This isn't about ability; it's about knowing the system, the plays, the game itself, and reliability especially as a 3rd down blocking back.
Brown is a hammer, so he won't hit any home runs. But he rarely loses yards because he's a north-south, get your shoulders square and go type of back. McVay can use jet sweep action to get some runs from our WRs to add to it.
This will probably change in a couple of games or so, (depending on its success) but I predict that's how it'll look against Dallas.
I see it differently, Rock.
Brown is a capable 3rd RB (when healthy). But he’s not the threat that McVay wants and needs in his O. He’s just not and he never will be. There’s a time and a place for that ‘hammer’ type RB, but I’m betting that McVay will be starting Akers or Hendy and will use them both in some kind of rotation until one or the other makes more plays per snap.
My guess for ultimate ‘starter’ is Akers. A football smart and well developed pass receiver and pass blocker for a rookie. But I’m hoping we have a 2-headed monster in Akers/Hendy. I think Brown may be gone by ‘21, tbh.
Yeah I see it the same. I love power backs and if it was me I'd have CJ Anderson in camp competing with these guys. But McVay likes those speedy homerun hitting dudes.
So I'm thinking that IF Brown starts we're probably in trouble. In trouble because those other two weren't good enough to take the job McVay wants them to take, and because trusting Brown to stay healthy is a scary thought. So hopefully it will be Akers/Hendy.
Also, I would really like to see the statline from the scrimmage.
