I did not like drafting Akers so early and not giving Henderson more run at carrying the load. He looked electric to me when given a chance last year.
C’mon, backer.
Hendy didn’t come close to meeting expectations last year. It only made sense to re-evaluate the RB room after Gurley’s departure and watching a struggling Hendy.
Geez...
They drafted DH as a complementary back for Gurley. So it was always 2 backs. With Gurley gone they drafted Akers obviously. Still 2 backs. Well 3 since Brown fits in there.
Either way, with DH and Akers in 2020, they could have 2 good backs (which is what I think) and my response to that is, yay.
DH was held back last year due to nagging little injuries and they say playbook issues too (and I tend to believe that). If he's good to go now and Akers is as promised, then, as I said...yay.
Henderson should be much more mentally prepared to contribute and motivated to do so. Akers is a talented runner and seems to have a high football IQ. And I've always been high on Brown, who, though presumptively 3rd in the packing order in terms of numbers of carries, has to figure that he might well have a better chance than in previous years to get his fair share. All should bee well-motivated - with something to prove and, in all likelihood, opportunities to prove it. I think we'll see strong efforts from all 3.
I love the potential of this group. If the OL is merely average we'll see more "flash" from this trio that we've seen from the running games since Gurley was healthy.
