I was in the upper deck of the Georgia Dome

June 03, 2020 08:03PM
On the opposite side of where the tackle happened. I was at about the 15 yard line watching through binoculars.

When the Titans tied the game with just over 2:12 to play, its the only time I prayed for a Rams win because I had @#$%& earned it!

When Bruce caught the 73 yard pass, I screamed so much and so long, I nearly passed out. I was literally seeing stars.

I watched that last play through a pair of binoculars. It looked like Dyson had a clear lane and then Mike comes out of nowhere and makes the tackle. The ref was standing nearby and I say him wave it off.

then the confetti fell. it was ram colored confetti. i felt like I was in a dream.

I had a guy (I had traveled there alone) take a photo of me in the upper deck. I was wearing a kevin carter #93 jersey and holding up my finger "#1".

I had realized then that this was the first time that my holding up of my finger was truly true. We were # 1.

Then, the other realization hit . . . . that for the first time in my life, I was happy when a SUCCESSFUL SEASON HAD ENDED!!!!!

Outside the stadium there was a camera crew and I came out screaming with my STLRAMZ license plate, so they wanted a quote from me since I was from California with a "STLRAMZ" california plate.

They asked me what I thought about this magical season - I was 29 at the time . .

"Magical season? In 1951, the Rams won the NFL Championship on a 73 yard pass from Van Brocklin to Fears.

48 years later a grocery clerk throws a 73 yard pass to Isaac Bruce to win the championship again."

Is that true they ask?

"Now we become the only NFL team to win a championship in 3 different cites Cleveland 1945, LA 1951 and STL 1999. We are the first dome team to win a championship. The first female owned team to win an NFL Championship which is fitting since we were first team to move out west, the first team to have a logo on its helmet, the first major sports team to break the color barrier a year before Jackie Robinson played for the Dodgers and the first team to broadcast games back home . ..

They cut me off and asked about Georgia Frontiere - I told them I was disappointed in Georgia because she said, during the trophy ceremony that this trophy was for all the Rams fans in "St. Louis". I told them It felt like a stab a bit in my heart and it was narrow minded of her. I told them this is certainly for the Rams fans in STL and the Rams fans in LA and the Rams fans from my town in Crescent City, California and for Rams fans around the world of which there are many and we will ALL be celebrating tonight!!!!

With that I walked off and celebrated with other fans. I never figured out where that film crew was from and for the next 6 months or so tried to run down the footage but never got it.

As I walked away, I had noticed the big banner out front of Warner and McNair fighting over a big jug of milk had changed. It now just showed Kurt Warner with a Milk Mustache....

I REALLY regret not going to that game. Only a 5-6 hour drive from Jacksonville.

Skepticism at first - but what about the drive leading up to it?
