Skepticism at first - but what about the drive leading up to it?

June 04, 2020 06:41AM
I remember it looked on TV like he *might* have stretched out enough to break the plane...I waited long seconds before they confirmed that he was down and the game was over. Then I feel like I sat in stunned silence. My SB party had broken up and kids were in bed (SB starts way too damned late if you ask me). Then I remember sitting quietly and just basking in all the after-game speeches, interviews etc. My great wife (now ex) just quietly cleaned up everything and let me sit and enjoy the feeling.

I actually have a stronger memory of the drive leading up to "the tackle." We just gave up yards after yards, first downs. I was slamming my forearm against the wall as I watched our lead potentially slip away. Then the play on 3rd and long where we had the Titans QB dead to rights and both of our pass rushers bumped into each other and he slipped away and completed the pass. So frustrating! So dramatic! The drama actually made the ending sweeter, but it was hard to take at the time.

I REALLY regret not going to that game. Only a 5-6 hour drive from Jacksonville.
