So, to me, it would be madness to rely on Hendo as our RB bell cow this season. I have zero confidence in Brown in that role, either. Therefore, they must acquire a quality RB this offseason for insurance, if nothing else. Only question is whether it will be a FA or draft pick and how early if it’s a draft pick.

I don't think it's possible to fall FAR short of expectations when the expectation is that you're not going to play much. When there is zero expectation, there is zero disappointment. (Same with David Long.) The plan was always for Gurley to be the main dude in 2019.

Some said when Hendo was drafted that they are drafting him for a future, post-Gurley life. Of course Snead and McVay had to deny it, yadda, yadda, and talk up his complimentary role but that never made much sense to me. IMO they drafted him as 2019 Gurley insurance with an eye of him being RB 1 in 2020 when I'm certain they KNEW they would trade or cut Gurley this year if the injury issues lingered.

Their planning is long term. Given that, what makes more sense than drafting someone who can be a bell cow - which would entail them admitting failure that the guy they drafted last year to be the 2020 and beyond bell cow - is drafting a RB that would be a complimentary piece with Hendo and Brown.

I don't think we've seen Snead and McVay admit failure on a pick after one year. I see nothing to indicate they would start that now.
