but you don't seem to like his strategy of trading picks for players. I understand the Ramsey deal if you think he is a generational talent, but his diva tendencies do not endear me to the guy. If things go bad, he is not someone who will be a leader....see Jaguars. If he is a Revis type lockdown corner for next 5 years, it will be a win I guess.
My main issue with Snead, is all the busts over the years. His fascination with raw, physical ability led to picks like GRob and Quick. His desire to force need picks led to trading a 2nd rd pick to move up to #8 to pick Tavon Austin. His love for wheeling and dealing led to I Pead & Rok Watson instead of Bobby Wagner. I know there have been Kupp & JJ picks as well, and AD, Gurley, etc...but all told his picks have been average to below average considering the plethora of picks he has had.
I was not a fan of Goff and still think Wentz is the better qb but both have had their struggles. I don't like Goff and the more I see, the more concerns I have. But yeah, we did not have a qb and now we do. I think the extension at the time was foolish. Goff had struggled enough that there was no point in extending him before necessary, and that includes using franchise tag for potentially 2 years.
Speaking of extensions, I don't know who is making the decisions, but extending Tavon, Gurley, Goff, Higbee were all highly questionable decisions.
This has not been a well run organization for some time, despite the SB appearance and overall win %. Its not how you build a team.
I definitely think the Rams have had some questionable decision making over the years. IMO, it's not enough to say the teams is not well run given the results.
On the draft busts, we're all entitled to our subjective opinions. I don't think mine or yours will ever change. However, it has been shown objectively hundreds of time now that the success rate of his picks are above average and at worst average. But that lawn has been mowed many times now so no use doing it again.
My biggest issue with Snead and team management is the decision making on extensions. Like you, I'm skeptical that Goff needed to be extended when he was. I was always against Gurley's extension because I don't believe RBs should be extended...ever. Some of it is bad luck but the extensions overall don't seem to be working out.
But what I really wanted to comment on regarding your post concerns team management. This team is not run by Snead. From everything I've gathered, their overall approach to team building has always been done on a collaborative basis. For instance, this last year at the owner's meetings, Demoff was interviewed on the trade for Ramsey. In his explanation of why they traded for Ramsey, he stated that as an organization they wanted to always be aggressive. Snead is aggressive as a GM who operates under the slogan of 'You can't be afraid!'. McVay is aggressive as a head coach. Your complaint with how things are run seems to be with their level of aggression in their approach to team building. That aggression informs the bold trades they've made and the early extensions they've done.
I don't have a problem with it in general. In fact, I like that approach. But I do hope they've learned some lessons along the way - such as don't extend RBs early. And truthfully, I kind of hope they rethink they're whole approach to extensions.
