The 'he's a bust' charge was leveled against Fowler prior to arriving in LA and he was a 3rd pick. There were those who said that you don't trade a 3rd round pick for such a bust.
But that turned out good right?
One guy is a bust, but had 2 decent years as a rush guy, then had an attitude and Jax dumped him, but he had shown pass rush ability---and it works to a degree with Rams
Another guy, hasn't show that rush ability, even though he had Mack on the other sid of him for 2 years--
because one worked, you think the other will work?
It's like rolling the dice and hitting 7 again and again---
also, look at Floyds body...he looks skinny. He's 6-5 240. Ask yourself how many guys have been that skinny and been double digit sackers since sacks became official? And how many recently? None recently. He COULD be the first, I guess.
But I an questioning it... that is all. I cannot see the future, maybe he DOES work out. But can't people see the odds are against it?
There is no real evidence that Fowler had shown much more rush ability. Look at their 2016 - 2018 seasons. I and another posted posted numbers on this.
There's not a huge difference between their numbers so IMO it's inaccurate to say one guy had 2 decent years as a rush guy. Fowler had 16 sacks in his first 3 seasons; Floyd had 15.5.
Both had been mediocre as rush guys.
You really missed the logic. It's not like rolling 7 again and again from pure randomness; You must factor in WHY the 7 was rolled. The why is AD. My premise is, Fowler would still be a nobody without AD.
When considering how a great player affects an edge defenders one on one opportunities, AD and Mack aren't good comparisons. They play different positions in different schemes.
It's already been shown that AD attracts more double and triple teams than any other player in the league. That's accepted common knowledge now. Thus, Fowler got a ton of one on one opportunities. To his credit, he took advantage of this last year.
Mack is not an interior DL player so it's actually harder to double and triple team him. He doesn't free up players for one on one opportunities like AD does. Moreover, as I believe Deadpool explained, he actually took pass rushing opportunities away from Floyd because of how good he is. He was rushing the QB every play; Floyd's role was often to sit back and read the defense between run/pass.
Since we still have the constant for a primary reason why Fowler succeeded, there's a decent chance the next super talented, athletic, yet underachieving guy can succeed.
