Because tbh I think Fish had so much control of the reins that it's hard to lay them at Snead's feet...
2017: TE Gerald Everett
2018: < no pick >
2019: S Taylor Rapp
2017... In Everett he went and got his new coach a TE who approximated the elements Reed had given him in Washington. Value for the pick was solid, not like it was a big reach or anything but he also wasn't a guy who slid. I feel this pick was targeted by Snead for the most part. Three years later we're still waiting for Gerald to put it all together consistently, and he might do that in 2020 but for right now it's an underwhelming choice.
2019... In Rapp he found a safety who brought the sure open field tackling and awareness they were seeking in the secondary. The pick was made after a trade down, and the Rams were quoted that they had a round 1 grade on him. Not sure I fully believe that, I think they liked him and targeted him but they moved down and I doubt they do that if they feel the guy was missed by everyone else, just a gut feeling there. Rapp, meanwhile, had impact as a rookie and was an excellent pick even though we only have one season to grade him.
My own take on Snead is that he is a plus GM in terms of having the feel of where to move to get guys he wants. But I personally would like to see more willingness to take the best player, the guy who slips to him, vice moving down which seems to be his preference. IMO he's still learning as a GM in some ways like that.
I'm of the mind that Snead's 2019 draft was his best to date. Might mean good things for us going forward, we'll see.
