Things the Rams considered that maybe you haven't.
What is the expected improvement in the player over the course of his contract?
If we don't pay this guy what will it cost to replace him - not just the money, but the draft capital and/or trade-able assets?
Where is the market for this position expected to go in the coming years?
What is the cap projected to be over the course of the contract? (Goff, for example, got 15.58% of the projected 2021 cap of $215M. In 2024 - the last year of the contract - the cap is likely to be in the $315M range. Goff's salary will be just over 10% of the cap and starting-caliber QBs up for their 2nd contract will be getting 4 year, $200M contracts. Note the the cap only has to go up 10% a year to get to $315M by 2024. Personally, I'm betting the 'over' on that one ...)
