Ramsey got lazy, and then passed the blame to Rapp. Classless
Don't buy it.
Again---every single player, coach, and waterboy on the team would know it was a lie IF it were.
And why would Rapp back his explanation if it were a lie.
Naw neither guy is THAT stupid.
...
...
But do you really look at that play and think Ramsey was where HE was supposed to be?
I think it's completely irrelevant.
Rapp was supposed to be over top, Ramsey released Sanders with that belief.
If Rapp did what he should have, there's no play, or it would have to be a very good one.
And I get back to the point I keep making. If Ramsey had any liability on that play at all, passing the buck on to Rapp would be a public lie, one every single person associated with the Rams organization, from players to coaches and then both above and below them, would KNOW was a lie. And Ramsey would know they would know that.
You really believe Ramsey would do that? Regardless what else you think of him.
.....
... you don't "release" a wide receiver into a one-on-one downfield with a safety.
Ramsey said this: "I played my technique, trusting that he was going to be over the top. And he wasn’t."
If "playing my technique" mean passing Sanders off entirely, then, yes, it's all on Rapp. That's what Ramsey effectively did. Is it YOUR guess that he was supposed to trail the play by 10 yds? That's what he did. But if "playing my technique" meant bracketing Sanders - as in, stay within, say, 3-5 yds underneath - then Ramsey ALSO blew it. And I suspect that's what happened.
And, yes, a player might well point to the HUGE error his teammate made while not mentioning his own.
I'd love to hear what was said in film review.
