I know it's hard for people from here to swallow this hard truth - but southern California is not the land of milk and honey you think it is. It's a great place and it's my home and right now, I wouldnt live anywhere else in America. But....there are downsides here, just like everywhere. 60,000 + people living in the street, for example. And if you travel a lot you'll see how much other cities in the US of A have to offer, just like LA - in terms of vibrant nightlife, lots to do, energy, excitement, etc.
I feel like the whole 'hollywood' thing is kind of a myth. Have you actually been to Hollywood? It's kind of dump / tourist trap. Most movies / tv show are not even shot here anymore.
The beaches here are nice, but there are much better beaches all over the country. Head on down to Santa Monica in June an enjoy the foggy 63 degree temperature as you dive into the 58 degree pacific waters! Better check the website to see what the water bacteria content is before you go!
