3. McVay realizing after the SB that he would need to evolve his offense to avoid what the NEs and Chicagos of the NFL did to him. Then almost literally doing nothing. Its still mostly 11 personnel and working out of playaction. Never handing the ball off out of shotgun, and even when Cooks goes down, not implementing more 2 TE sets.
As for Gaines, my bet is they didn't think Day was going to win the job and they reacted maybe too soon.
The inability to find a solution to the 6-1 defense just baffles me. McVay is supposed to be a creative genius and he's stumped by the defense we used in youth football.
I don't see where Gaines was a reaction. We were getting gashed by run games, we lost Suh and we needed a rotational NT (or a starer if Day couldn't win the job)
