There is such a thing as a RB by committee and it has worked for plenty of teams, and plenty of good RBs. NO with Ingram and Kamara and now Murray. Kamara only has 5 more carries then Murray.
SF with Breida and Coleman. 109 to 92. And Coleman was out early. Philly with Howard and Sanders.
And they aren't saving him for anything. Where did anyone get this idea. A pitch count isn't saving a pitcher for later. A snap count isn't saving a football player for later.
I kinda liken this to Steven Stausberg a few years ago for the Nationals. he was coming off TJ? surgery and they had him on a 200 inning restriction. He hit that restriction late in the year and even though they were fighting for a playoff spot, they shut him down. And they caught all sorts of flak for it. Few years later, Stausberg, not totally destroyed by being run into the ground is a major contributor for a WS team. The Rams obviously want to get Gurley to the finish line with enough snaps to make a run in the playoffs. If Brown and Henderson aren't enough in the regular season, then they need better backups.
If the Rams were to go to TG and say hey we are up against it, are you comfortable going against, trainers, specialists or doctors (or any combination there of) and running the ball 23 times on Sunday night? he'd say yes, because football players are in the end, still football players. And maybe it works. For Chicago, but then its the same against Baltimore, and so on. Maybe he makes it to the end of the season, maybe he doesn't. I'm guessing he wouldn't have much left in the tank for the playoffs even if they made it. So then whats the point? To be a wildcard and lose? Literally pointless. Esp for a team that had aspirations to win a SB.
Oh, and this 47 million dollar contract has nothing to do with anything. All players get paid, doesn't matter how much if you are injured. And he is now chronically injured. He will never be 2017 Gurley again.
