Couple of things.

First, this strategy works best when a team has a combo like Kroenke, Demoff, Snead, and McVay. Do NOT try this without having those final 3 parts.

Kroenke has the deep pockets needed and believes in allowing his people to do their jobs. Such an owner is not all that common in the NFL.

Gotta be able to acquire 2nd tier inexpensive players to surround the elites with. Without that ability the wheels quickly fall off. Snead has done this so far.

Demoff is a borderline genius at negotiations and cap management. Without him this strategy could spin out of control. This is Max’s fear.

McVay and his staff are peerless in developing new players and assimilating older vets into their Ram culture. No team does a better job of this, consequently the Rams are now a destination team. This greases the wheels for FA acquisitions and trades.


Second, I think Kroenke’s role is limited to final approval on the biggest of moves only. And he invariably approves moves where Demoff, Snead, and McVay are in accord. Kroenke is NOT an active or public type of owner (such as a Jerry Jones). I much prefer the Kroenke type of owner.
