I see it differently.
I see a QB who has not looked as good this year as he had before the bye last year.
If you see a QB who looks better now than then, more power to you. I have nothing more to say on it.
In 2018 he was INCONSISTENT after the bye because defenses were throwing things at them they had no answer for (which is no rare thing with a 3rd year qb) and the running game became more and more problematical. And in his off games, he looked like he was confused and out of kilter.
That doesn't describe 2019.
In 2019 they have a young and inexperienced interior OL, and the 2 OTs are not playing as well as before.
What you get NOW is flashes of brilliance in the middle of "off" play. It's not the same struggling qb facing defenses he can't crack, it's what happens EVERY TIME your OL struggles--up and down, on and off, the timing isn't there, the qb is rushed, he doesn't trust the protection, and the play calling is affected too, to compensate.
Think about this.
The qb was behind a struggling OL. Even his vet LOT is struggling (3 holding calls? When was the last time that happened to AW?) They are behind by multiple scores. They are facing a top pass rushing team that KNOWS the offense must pass AND that the OL is struggling.
Does it surprise me you have tipped passes, INTs, fumbles, and sacks under those circumstances? No. I saw the 2-14 Rams beat the Saints in 2011 by harassing Brees into playing badly.
What DOES surprise me is that they were ever in it at all. That under those conditions they scored 33 points (7 on defense) and at times looked like they could take the game.
AND THEY WERE ONLY EVER IN IT, WHEN THEY WERE IN IT, BECAUSE OF THE PASSING GAME.
That's the part that surprises me. Not the moments where the qb couldn't rise about the chaos. That's to be expected under those conditions. Heck I've seen the Ram do that to Wilson, and Wilson is one of the very rare qbs who can play well under those conditions.
