See the PFF link above on ranking OLs:
"The biggest surprise for Tennessee has been the relatively ineffective play of free agent signing Rodger Saffold, who has already allowed three sacks so far this season."
I loved Saffold but it's too early to say it was wrong to move on from him. In the long-term it was the right decision I believe.
Yeah, was watching him in Tenn and he looks miserable, just doesn't look like the same player.... not gonna try to begrudge him for getting one last pay day, but sometimes you have to place a value on winning and just having fun doing so.... He has already made close to $40M with the Rams.... I think I could probably survive ok with $40M
He was quoted earlier saying he was open to a hometown discount, but I think the Tenn money was too much to turn down.
The Rams very early in the process said that Saffold was likely going to get offers above what they could pay. Translation: they didn't make much of an attempt to keep him.
I saw no report stating that they made a hometown discount offer. They had to prioritize elsewhere. It doesn't appear that putting significant money in the OL was in the cards for them.
That's why I said several times I don't begrudge the players for taking the money, it just sometimes it doesn't always work out so well for them when they do.....I think the Rams probably did offer him a nice chunk of change, but it was not close to what Tenn had in the bank..... it's a salary cap league, you can't pay everyone. I think the Rams are going to have to use a couple high picks next year on the oline and hope they hit on the .Oline is a huge part of any teams success....always has been.
