Wade needs pressure on the QB and playmakers in the secondary for his scheme to work. While they're deep at safety and having excellent safeties can really help young CBs, they do need to add there. Long is being pretty much redshirted but will have a bigger role in 2020. I still think Chris Harris from Denver could come to LA in 2020. They could also sign a jettisoned free agent like they did with Weddle and Matthews this year. Or trading a mid-round pick (they will have three 4ths) like they did in acquiring Talib. But also, drafting a CB high could be a good way to go. Maybe late 1st or maybe after trade(s) back as they did with Rapp this year.
Same at DE/Edge where Brockers and Fowler will be UFAs, Matthews would be entering his final season, etc. Pass rush is paramount.
Right now I just can't see the Rams going any other directions with their top pick in 2020.
My thinking is
(1) they have candidates at LB and DB but not at DE
(2) they can find CBs after day one but if you need a base 3/4 DE who plays as a rookie you pretty much have to take him day one or latest round 2.
The need at DE may simply negate any other consideration.
