Team A is a 75% RZ team. On average they get to the RZ 4 times a game and score 3 TDs and kick a FG. 24 points.
Team B is a 67% RZ team. On average they get to the RZ 6 times a game and score 4 TDs and kick 2 FGs. 34 points.
I'll take Team B, thanks (which is pretty much the Rams so I'm good with that ...)
I get the logic and ultimately points scored is the main criteria. But inefficiency should never be excused.
The whole point of coaching is that you can always get better. And if you can, you should. I guarantee you that McVay is not doing these Team A versus Team B comparisons and saying it's ok that we're inefficient in the RZ.
Besides they're not at 67% in the RZ. The inefficiency can come back to bite them especially in the playoffs. One of these days they may need to score 35 instead of 27. And they can do that simply by taking 2 of those FGs and making them TDs.
So my verdict is getting there many times is good but that doesn't excuse not being efficient once you do get there.
