I find it interesting how media/people decide on Qbs in a couple years. Personally, I think you can tell if a Qb is a quality player in half a season.
What I look for--can they run an offense? Get everyone lined up. and snap the ball on time. The vast majority can do this--Kizer his rookie year could not.
Next, accuracy accuracy accuracy. Are the majority of their throws placed so that the receiver has an easy catch. This is usually the tell all or breaking point. Most Qbs that fail fail here. Even if the QB cant make all the throws, if they are accurate they can play--though it is easier to defend them. Baker, Mahomes , are excellent here. Mariota, Allen, Carr, Trubisky are examples are not accurate.
Accuracy, from what I have seen, does not improve. This is a trait developed over the football life of the QB and I do not believe it is possible to go from poor accuracy to good.
Anticipation--does the Qb have the abilty to throw the ball not to the man but to a spot. Goff shines here imo. Kurt was one of the best.
Goff takes a lot of flak for the Super Bowl but I think history will show that the Patriots defense last year and this year is one of their best. Regardless, Goff needs to take more shot plays when they are there. He is too quick to check down. Whether thats the system or Goff or both idk. But its on film alot. I think Kupp returning is an immense help. The Rams per pass play avg dropped for 9.5 (1st) w Kupp to 5.8 (below the Bears) wout Kupp.
One thing I think about is how would Goff do on the 1999 Rams. I think he would have been very good. Not Kurt good but close. Goff really has excellent accuracy and solid anticpation.
