Sean McVay, Les Snead sign contract extensionsThe two men spearheading the Rams football operations are now slated to be around through 2023, as both general manager Les Snead and head coach Sean McVay have signed contract extensions.
The two have been partners as GM and HC for two years, compiling a 24-8 regular-season record, and a 2-2 record in the postseason, becoming NFC Champions in the process.
Snead has been the Rams’ general manager since the 2012 season, and has orchestrated the seventh-most trades in that time with 48 — last year notably acquiring cornerback Aqib Talib, cornerback Marcus Peters, and wide receiver Brandin Cooks.
Six of Snead’s draft picks have become All-Pros, which is tied for the most selections since 2012. Snead also was instrumental in selecting defensive tackle Aaron Donald in 2014 and running back Todd Gurley in 2015. Both players won AP Defensive and Offensive rookie of the year, respectively, before bringing home the 2017 AP Defensive and Offensive Player of the Year awards.
And of course, Los Angeles locked up both Gurley and Donald to long-term contracts last summer.
After consecutive seasons of finishing at No. 32 in total offensive yards and a season of also finishing No. 32 in points, the Rams have made a remarkable offensive turnaround under McVay. The club finished No. 1 in scoring for the first time since 2001 in McVay’s first season, and followed that up by finishing No. 2 in both points and yards in 2018.
Quarterback Jared Goff has also made great strides under McVay, throwing for 8,492 yards and 60 touchdowns in the last two regular seasons — becoming a Pro Bowler in both 2017 and 2018. Going into their third season together, McVay and Goff are now even more likely to be linked together for many years to come.
