Okay, this is ancient history but it's so aggravating I had to post about it. Much talk has been had about whether Fisher was a good coach or victim of circumstance or whatever but the first quarter of this game exemplifies to me why I was eager to see him go.
On the second drive of the game, the Rams march down the field and get near the red zone. Bradford throws a nice pass to the back corner of the end zone and Gibson toe taps to what looks like a TD catch. Both announcers are saying it's worth a challenge as it's VERY close on the sideline. He appears to get both feet in after 3 different replays. Fisher doesn't challenge. Next play, false start. Next play, sack/fumble and Saffold gets hurt recovering the ball. Settles for the FG. So, Fisher gives 4 points away and sustains an injury to the OL for no good reason.
Third drive, Rams just forced a punt and get the ball back from Washington at their own 38. Great field position and a chance to drive again and maintain momentum. On 3rd and 4, Rams throw a swing pass to Richardson out of the backfield and he angles to the sideline, getting knocked out of bounds right at the marker. Official spots it where his foot went out instead of where the ball was and marks it a yard short. Fisher can't send the punt team onto the field fast enough and again, chooses not to challenge. Replays clearly show that the ball was well beyond the marker and that it should have been a first down.
These are relatively little things but cumulatively, it illustrates why Fisher just didn't have a feel for the game and was ultimately a 7-9 @#$%& coach.
