Rams only have 2 players left on the roster from blockbuster Robert Griffin III trade
That trade didn’t work out the way the Rams or Washington expected.

Back in 2012, Washington put together a blockbuster trade with the then-St. Louis Rams to move up to No. 2 and draft Robert Griffin III. The Rams ended up getting eight total picks out of the deal. Five years later, after the Rams traded Greg Robinson to the Detroit Lions, only two of those players remain on the roster.
Jeff Fisher trolled Washington before a 2014 game, sending six of these players out on the field as captains for the coin toss. Griffin was benched for most of that game, coming in late for Kirk Cousins as Washington trailed by 24. At the time, it looked like the Rams had come out ahead in this deal. Now, it looks like nobody really won.
Here’s where all of the players from that trade landed.
The Rams still have two solid players left
Michael Brockers: DT, Los Angeles Rams
2012, No. 14
The Rams swapped with the Cowboys, sending Dallas the sixth overall pick they got in the Griffin trade for the Cowboys’ No. 14 and No. 45 picks. Brockers is still on Los Angeles’ roster. He’s been a reliable contributor along the defensive line, with 14.5 career sacks and two forced fumbles.
Alec Ogletree: LB, Los Angeles Rams
2013, No. 30
The Rams sent the No. 22 pick they got from Washington to the Atlanta Falcons, picking up Atlanta’s 30th overall pick and a third- and sixth-round pick in 2013. Ogletree is the best player the Rams landed in the Griffin trade. He was named a second-team All-Pro last season, and led the team in tackles with 136. He had 11 pass breakups, two interceptions, and a forced fumble.
The other six are with other teams or out of the league
Janoris Jenkins: CB, New York Giants
2012, No. 39
Jenkins is a good player — just not for the Rams anymore. The team opted to let Jenkins hit free agency when they used the franchise tag on Trumaine Johnson instead following the 2015 season. Jenkins had 49 tackles, a sack, three interceptions and a forced fumble for the New York Giants last season.
Isaiah Pead: RB, retired
2012, No. 50
The Rams traded the No. 45 pick they got from the Cowboys to the Bears for the No. 50 pick and a fifth-rounder. Pead was involved in a single-car accident in November 2016 and lost part of his leg, ending his career. His time with the Rams was marred by injury and a substance abuse suspension, and he had brief stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Miami Dolphins after three years in St. Louis.
Rokevious Watkins: OL, free agent
2012, No. 150
Watkins was waived by the Rams during roster cuts in 2013 after playing in just one game for St. Louis in his rookie season. He signed with the Chiefs, starting one game for Kansas City, and was released prior to the 2014 season.
Stedman Bailey: WR, free agent
2013, No. 92
Bailey played consistently for the Rams in his first two seasons. During the 2015 season, Bailey was shot multiple times in the head, but survived. He spent 2016 on the Rams’ reserve/non-football injury list and was cut by the team after the 2016 season. He’s currently attempting a comeback.
Zac Stacy: RB, retired
2013, No. 160
Stacy had 973 yards and seven touchdowns for St. Louis in his rookie season, but dropped off in 2014, rushing for just 293 yards and one score. He requested a trade after the Rams drafted Todd Gurley in 2015, and they sent him to the New York Jets. Stacy broke his ankle in 2015, landing on injured reserve, and he was waived by New York prior to the 2016 season. He announced his retirement from the NFL in February.
Greg Robinson: OT, Detroit Lions
2014, No. 2
Robinson was considered to be one of the top tackle prospects in the 2014 draft, but he didn’t live up to his draft status with the Rams. He was benched twice during the 2016 season for poor play, and the Rams traded Robinson to the Lions during the 2017 offseason in exchange for a 2018 fifth-round pick.

Robert Griffin, III: QB, free agent
2012, No. 2
After earning Offensive Rookie of the Year honors in his first season, injuries changed the trajectory of his career. Griffin was released by Washington following the 2015 season. Griffin won the starting job with the Cleveland Browns in 2016, but suffered a shoulder injury in Week 1 that kept him off the field for most of the season. The Browns released him in March, and he remains unsigned. Although the Rams did cut quarterback Dylan Thompson on Thursday, and they just have Jared Goff and Sean Mannion on the roster. Perhaps they could bring this thing full circle and just sign Griffin, too.
The coaches are gone, too
Jeff Fisher was the coach of the Rams when the team worked out the Griffin trade. Fisher was fired after a 4-9 start last season. Mike Shanahan was Washington’s head coach when the team drafted Griffin. He was fired after a 3-13 finish in 2013. Both remain unemployed.
At least the Rams ended up with Ogletree and Brockers, who are two key members of the defense. But overall, this trade didn’t go well for anyone involved.
