I guess you could say he stopped the bleeding. But frankly, he was a relic. Good motivator...players loved him...good defensive mind and hired good DCs...but offensively he was beyond extinct...beyond a dinosaur.
If Jeff Fisher was even remotely deemed a solid coach, he would have had at least some interviews for jobs. But...no...he is history.
I took no solace in becoming a 7-9 team. He had an treasure trove of draft picks and couldn't make a dent to become a winner. That, goes to McVay. Do you really think the Rams make the playoffs in 2017 with Fisher as head coach? If you do, I say HA!
Here is what Jeff Fisher received in draft picks his five year's as head coach...
2012 Round 1 Pick 14 Round, 2 Pick 1
2013 Round 1 Pick 8 (traded up for Austin...I wanted Hopkins), Round 1 Pick 30
2014 Round 1 Pick 2 (don't get me started), Round 1 Pick 13 (I'll thank him forever for this), Round 2 Pick 9
2015 Round 1 Pick 10
2016 Round 1 Pick 1
Should he have gone for a QB earlier? Maybe that was his biggest fault. But, even if he did, he was clueless about QB development. Look at his incredibly poor choices for OC.
If you pick one draft pick that did him in, it was 2014 with the Robinson selection.
Jeff Fisher was the HC when we stockpiled Brockers, Donald, Gurley and Goff. The other players were busts or JAGs. I give more credit to Snead than Fisher.
So...the only one to blame in the failure of the team during Jeff Fisher's term...was Jeff Fisher. I say this not as a Fisher hater. I was happy to have Jeff Fisher. He just made poor assistant coach selections and didn't appropriately build the team in key positions that support the team. That is on Fisher. That is why he isn't getting a sniff of another HC position.
