Report: Jets interested in two of Rams' biggest free agents

Entering free agency this year for the Los Angeles Rams, there are four big names set to hit the market: Rodger Saffold, Dante Fowler Jr., Ndamukong Suh and Lamarcus Joyner. Les Snead indicated that all three will be allowed to test the waters and won’t be re-signed before the new league year begins on March 13, which isn’t great news for Los Angeles.
There’s a very real possibility that all four leave in free agency, forcing the Rams to replace three starters on defense and one on offense. Considering how many teams have an abundance of cash ready to spend, too, the Rams are unlikely to compete with many of the top offers made to those players.
According to multiple reports, the Jets are already showing interest in two of L.A.’s biggest free agents. Connor Hughes of The Athletic reported Monday that the Jets have shown interest in Fowler and Saffold, the latter of whom will have a lot of teams vying for his services.
This coincides with previous reports from Steve Wyche of NFL Network, who mentioned the Jets as a team who could sign the guard, and ESPN’s Rich Cimini, who reported New York’s interest in Fowler and other pass rushers.
The Jets have the second-most cap space in the NFL this offseason at $102 million, according to Over The Cap. The Rams, on the other hand, have just $22.5 million in cap room, which is in the bottom half of the league.
Needless to say, it’ll be extremely difficult for the Rams to compete with teams like the Jets, Colts and Bills, who could all potentially express interest in many of the Rams’ free agents, including Suh, as well.
