They don't want TG just for this week.
They want him for the next week, and hopefully after that as well.
Maybe their experience has shown that below a certain number of carries, the inflammation is not too bad.
Maybe that's why they were holding back on the run game for a while, especially after Brown was injured.
With Anderson's demonstrated competence, they now have the option of using Gurley for the appropriate number of carries, and still coming back for more with CJ.
I believe you are correct and I think they've known about the problem the whole year. I'm not a doctor (is there a doctor in the forum? Someone get an ortho doctor!) but I believe that since he is a big back that puts a whole lot of pounds per square inch on that knee joint when he runs, and that what we are seeing is a consequence of his ACL tear and reconstructive knee surgery in college. I do know that reconstructive knee surgery alters the architecture of the knee slightly and I think this is what is causing the problems and inflammation. What worries me is, and I'm not a doctor, but I believe if that is the case the problem is chronic and will never get completely better but will gradually get worse (though there may be times when it flares up even worse and then rest is needed to get it under control). If that's the case and Anderson continues to run well for us throughout the playoffs, we may want try to keep him long term even though it would be far more expensive than your typical "back-up" rb.
