One of the reasons for the Rams record is that Gurley offers so much MORE to the Ram offense-and Goff himself-that his inability to contribute in the same form as before becomes a significant concern. Anderson can be defended but Gurley at 100 % is way too difficult to defend and that would add to Goff's success. If Gurley doesn't possess the same threat as before the Cowboys will focus Goff.
Maybe Gurley does offer much more but we sure can't tell after CJ's last 2 weeks. I don't think even Gurley has ever matched 7+ yards per carry.
The world has never seen Anderson run in a McVay scheme behind a Kromer OL and so far what we've seen is a revelation that kind of runs counter to your theory that Anderson can be defended.
You're talking about one defense that is 32nd in rushing yards allowed and 27th in yards per carry (ARZ).
And we could be talking about another defense that maybe just couldn't find a way to get into the game. On paper SF is was 14th in rushing yards and 7th in yards per carry (SF) and that;s a better defense than ARZ, obviously, but because of the way the game played out (3 turnovers on SF's 1st 3 drives) the 49ers were never really in it (by the end of the 3rd quarter they were behind 45-17). This is a bit of a mindread obviously but I am not sure the SF defense had it in them to stay in the game. I am not skoffing at 155 yards rushing, I just wonder how much of a test they were.
Dallas in contrast is both hungry and 5th in rushing yards and 5th in yards per carry.
All I am saying is that it may be too soon to really know HOW good CJ is and the last 2 games may not really tell us that.
