"It's hard to argue with success" is a well known axiom, the limiting bar is our definition of "success." In Detroit it is an 9/7 year, in Boston its a ring. Honestly, just for me, I want the ring, but after so many poor seasons, I'd be happy with 11/5 for the next few years. What a pleasure its been so far.
It's a truism that people play to their strengths; they default to their strengths. You see this exemplified in Lee vs Meade from the minute Lee heard of Meade taking command of the Army of the Potomac until his painful retreat. McVay is strong at particular offensive passing creativity sets, maybe not so strong with simpler pass sets and smash mouth football.
Opponents study the man they go up against and know his strength and tendencies. If you intend to gut someone you'd better know his strengths an defaults. I think our opponents know us know. If McVay can't create some new twists by going back to some basics there will be no ring at the end of the rainbow for us. I fear playing Seattle in the playoffs.
I'm just rambling, but I think Deadpool presented numbers that support how many of us feel. Something is definitely wrong with McVay's strats, all it needs is some tuning, not a total makeover.
