From what we see today, what positions do we need to replace in 2019

December 01, 2018 05:02AM
First, while I offer this critique, it is not meant to call any player worthless or bad player. But merely an observation of where we probably need to improve for 2019. And not surprising, it is on the D.

FS................Joyner has been nearly invisible this year. He's worth keeping as a 4th corner, or sub at pretty much any Secondary position. But....he'll demand and probably command way too much money on the open market. I think we need to spend some money here and get the best guy we can get. I wouldn't at all mind exploring getting Earl Thomas. He'd probably LOVE to stick it to the Seahawks and Carroll.

ILB.............Littleton is a terrific player, but he needs to play Barron's role. Barron gets way too much money because he's never 100%. A rookie might be able to do the job here. But a 8 or 9 year middle tier vet who can really stuff the run while being able to control a short zone might be best for this Super Bowl ready team.

Dline................Suh, at least to me, has been a major disappointment. He has generated little pressure on the passer, and seems to always be out of position on run plays. We have to do better. I think we need to let Brockers go back to the NT position after bulking back up about 20 lbs. This may mean that we need another 3-4 DE.

OLB......to be determined. One spectacular game doesn't make Ekuban a fixture. Fowler has shown flashes, but he needs to step it up for the Rams if he is to get an offer to re-sign. We have hopes for Obo, but he hasn't played a down so there's nothing to back up that hope except college tape. Longacre, is, I'm afraid, damaged goods. He's a shadow of himself pre-back injury.

On the offense, we need two things: one, a viable back up QB. Anything happens to Goff, it would be catastrophic for the Rams. We can do FAR better than Mannion and should. The second thing is to draft another Olineman, maybe as high as the 3rd round.

If there's any place else we need to look, perhaps it's at TE. I'm not sure the Rams want to pay Higbee substantial money, and it may be time to draft a good all around TE to eventually replace him.
