It was actually never confirmed that he was out of condition. In fact that was just a board rumor that got shot down. At the time...the rumors were shot down in real time as they came up. A conditioning test can spot minor injury or health issues too and he was back on the squad I believe the next day. There were good camp reports on his performance last summer.
Nowhere does any site or reporter ever state he was out of shape.
And if he was so unmotivated, it has been made clear this year that the Rams are deep at DB, and we've seen good things from the backups. So why would they be stupid enough to start him if he wasn't performing.
So I tend not to buy that stuff.
