people start changing the premise.
No one argues that an elite QB is worth his weight in gold.
Do you take Tom Brady or Jim Brown? Well...I get it.
But, while I'm a Mayfield fan, I'm guessing he isn't Drew Brees. Sam Darnold, while I'm not a big fan, let's say he is I dunno...pick someone who was good.
Saquan Barkley is the perfect storm. Running inside and outside, power, speed, blocking, great receiving. Not just good. But showing greatness in all facets. He's a guy that is doing something special almost every game...multiple times.
Drew Brees started winning again when? When the two headed monster showed up...and really it wasn't until Kamara came on the scene. Why? Because that threat from the backfield was a game changer. Running the ball, short passes...utilized clock. Until Kamara, showed up, Brees was getting lots of passing yards while the Saints fell into mediocrity.
I think what it shows is that "in today's game", it's vital to have that threat in the backfield...unless your Tom Brady.
So, I still think, after all debate, that Barkley was not just the right choice, but clearly the right choice. If Darnold was drafted by the Giants, he still would be on the bench. The Giants would still need help up front. If the Giants play this right, they go find a QB, whether it be the draft or free agency. They will have the type of runnning back that today's game calls for...and probably the best at it...with all due respect to Todd Gurley.
