Most of the talking heads thought that with OBJ back, a star rusher SB and adding Solder to the OL, that the Giants would be a halfway decent team capable of 8 or so wins.
To think you're going to get a top flight QB picking in the teens is rolling the dice and then placing your winnings (if there were any) on roulette.
I *think* that because it seems like there have been some good QB's come out the last 2-years that picking them is easier than it really is. Historically, more 1st round QB's fail, or are journeymen at best than succeed.
There are plenty of teams that have gone years without hitting on a QB, yet the assumption is that the Giants were going to hit on Barkley and then hit on a QB next year too.
You're right, near as I know that wasn;t the conscious plan, The conscious plan was, we can still get something out of Eli. That fell apart.
So when I said THIS I wasn't talking about what the TEAM assumed:

I don't think anyone is arguing that in the future you don't take a qb if you took an elite RB.
I think the assumption is, probably by next year they will have both.
That statement is about what posters HERE are saying on this issue. That is, to rephrase it to be more clear, I don;t think any posters are arguing that in the future the Giants won't take a qb, so no posters are arguing you just need only the elite RB. I think the posters who defend taking the RB think that the Giants will add a qb,
I think also it's a complete historical accident that the Rams figured in 2015 that they could get by with Foles and didn't get a qb, just as the Giants figured they could get by with Eli and some OL fixing and so could take the elite RB. So I wasn't stating that as a conscious team building model. '
