For no fault of his own (because he tried, he just couldn't cut it) this 6th round pick entered the collective Rams fan mind as THE 2018 summer whipping boy .
Lots and lots of 6th rounders don't make it. Very few 6th round picks DO make it.
But Hemingway became the magnet for frustrated disappointment in a player.
For some reason.
...
ZN, I've heard from people I know who are around the team and around some of the team reporters that Hemingway may not have tried as hard as he was capable of.
And does everyone know that? I doubt it. (And that's assuming it's true.) So...the question then remains. Of all the low round picks who didnt come through and couldn't make it, why is he getting all the attention? Probably cause McVay pumped him up. Well to me then that falls on McVay for pumping up a guy who didn't earn it.
The word I get on Hemingway was that his injuries left him with huge emotional and psychological hurdles to overcome and he couldnt do it. Has nothing to do with "trying."
I can certainly appreciate the affect injuries have on an athlete's psyche. If your mind is not ready, you won't be able to make extreme demands on your body. I've lived through that. It's too bad things didn't work out for him in the end.
I will have to say this though. I kept stressing that he was just another "couldn't make it" 6th round pick who tried.
Some things about that have to be qualified.
First if your report is correct I can't just keep saying he tried. Maybe he didn;t, as much as I was saying.
Also, he was signed to the practice squad. So...it's also not entirely true that he didn't make it.
On the injuries. Here;s Bonsignore on injury issues.

He had a poor camp. Could be affect/carry over of the injury.
