Heck last year starters played in game 2. Goff had 20 attempts in game 2 last year and Gurley played too.
Really, for whatever reason he has in his head, McV just thought it was a competitive advantage thing to field starters in the preseason against a team they will play in week 1. Whether or not we understand that reasoning is beside the point....whatever he was thinking when he did that, that's what he did and why.
It's not like he is against fielding starters in the preseason, they already did that last year. Goff had 32 attempts last year. At the end of the preseason, how many will he have this year?
