I think it;s a mistake to assume these guys just want money.
Notably, Cooks got the going rate this year at his position, which for all WR 2nd contracts this year, was around 16 M. So he knows he got what he is worth, in market terms anyway. It's not only a financial windfall, it's an earned token of respect and recognition.

He got a 16M extension that averages out to under 15M including this year.
If the Rams offered Donald a 4 year extension at 24M, then including this year that would put him at under 21M.
