this deal is big getting done now vs. going into next year risking the loss,
But...what does this mean for Donald?
Donald has given you 4 All Pro years...and a guy comes in...doesn't play one down for you and he gets paid premium dollars.
I'm getting very nervous over Donald. I'm hoping they wanted to get this out of the way and are now focused on the real gem.
It clearly means Donald doesn't want to sign yet. There is nothing for him to be upset at. If he wants to use Mack and the rest of the NFL to bump up his contract then more power to him. That's what I would do.
Realistically...we don't know either way how the negotiations are going. We don't know if the issue is the Rams, or Donald, or both, or if in fact actually there is no issue.
VB & RH addressed this. I agree with their responses.

What do you think is going through Aaron Donald’s head right now?
Vincent Bonsignore@DailyNewsVinny
That this signing has no negative impact on his situation.
Raul Vargas@LakerPZ
Cooks gets a five year deal and he hasn’t played a down for them.
I'm sure Aaron Donald is really happy with the Rams right now
Vincent Bonsignore@DailyNewsVinny
It’s not how this works. The situations are unto themselves on many level
The timing of signings is in no way indicative of the simultaneous nature in which negotiations take place. If you really think #Rams told AD to wait his turn I’m not sure what to tell you.
Brandon Kiley@BKSportsTalk
Oh, c’mon. It has to be infuriating to watch the team prioritize signing newcomers to contract extensions before they get to you.
Vincent Bonsignore@DailyNewsVinny
You’re making a mistake if you think club prioritized Cooks over Donald to the point of signing Cooks means not signing Donald. That’s a silly line of thinking

I have to admit I'm confused why people choose to conflate Brandin Cooks and Aaron Donald contract issues. They're different. Negotiations happen at different paces. Some are more complicated than others. It's not a matter of prioritizing one over the other.
