I understand the questions about Barron's health but he has only missed 2 games in the past 3 years. [

As to his ability in run support I think you have underestimated his contributions.
"According to Pro Football Focus, Barron has been the best run-stopping inside linebacker in the league. He’s recorded a run-stop rate of 11.5 percent, which is just ahead of Bobby Wagner and Blake Martinez, who are No. 2 and 3." published 10/25/17 [

"Back in May (2017), Pro Football Focus already had their eyes on Barron as a leader in defensive stops among all NFL linebackers, as he’d recorded more than all but two linebackers since Week 5 of the 2015 season. ... However with Phillips playing him as a more traditional inside linebacker – he’s actually stepped up as a run stopper in addition to his exceptional abilities in pass coverage. Barron is the league’s second most efficient run-stopping linebacker through Week 7." [

For the entire 2017 season Barron was the 4th best LB against the run. [

It was Ogletree who was the weak link against the run. No matter who the Rams put out there - Littleton, Wilson, Hager, or Kiser - there will be a huge upgrade in run support over what Tree provided. And with Barron and any of these guys at ILB behind Suh at NT I expect the Rams to improve dramatically on the 4.7 yards per attempt they gave up last year.
The Rams did a good job by getting rid of the main offenders in the porous run defense.
Addition by subtraction. I expect the LB unit to be better this year despite fewer big names and a lower salary allotment towards the position.
