The fact is a players age has nothing to do with a thing.......
It's just a fact in the NFL. 2nd contracts are where starters cash in and the money for top starters is very predictable year by year with 2nd contracts. I am talking about how things work in the NFL, and the logic of the 2nd contract situation, which is pretty clear and pretty easy to get the numbers on.
3rd contracts are much more all over the map and variable.
Either way saying Donald can't cash in on his 2nd contract because Suh took less on his 3rd makes no sense.
For one thing, Suh had a high rookie contract because he was drafted in 2010 before the new CBA. Suh's rookie contract was 78 M for 5 years. Donald's (before the 5th year option) was just under 11 M for 4 years.
For another thing, Suh's 2nd contract in 2014 was a record breaker.
So saying that Suh in his 3rd contract is a model for Donald just ignores all that.
Donald's rookie contract was a 7th of what Suh got in 2010. Suh has made his money. Donald hasn't had that chance yet.
And for another Suh signing for less on a 3rd contract has nothing to do with Donald's 2nd contract. The 2nd is the big contract. That's when a player with market value cashes in, in the prime of his career.
Suh himself is not very likely to endorse the idea that Donald should get stiffed on a 2nd contract, for any reason. Suh would know...before this year, he has made more than 150 M. Before this year, Donald has made less than 11 M.
