If they had player they had clearly rated ahead of all the others at that point,then they should take him regardless of position. But that rarely happens, especially at Pick 87. At most points in the draft (especially later on) teams will have more than one player with similar/same grades. In that case they can pick the player that fills the greatest need.
Also, BPA is really meaningless because every team has their own way of evaluating players. BPA is team specific, it's not universal. The Draft is a beauty contest....and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If you surveyed every team at every pick of the draft who the BPA was you would get multiple answers....in the 6th or 7th round you might get 32 different answers.
Whenever I hear BPA I always think: "According to Who?" The true BPA at every pick can only be determined years later. At the time of the draft it's just one teams opinion.
