It doesn't have to strictly be about gimmick plays. Rams WR's were schemed open at times. That seems the case because of how wide open many of Goff's throws were. So I'm not talking about the double reverses or whatever. Other WR's got the ball in space, so I think McVay could do it..

But he's not shown he can get open consistently and catch the ball consistently. The gimmick stuff is just a way of saying that they want to get the ball in his hands without throwing it too far down the field. So, they move him to RB, and that is always going to be limited. And when they play him at receiver, he does not impress in practice (apparently) or games to warrant giving or getting him the ball more.

If he wants to be an NFL player he has to play and NFL position, and his best position, it would seem, would be slot receiver. And he's shown he's not good enough to be reliable. So, we are left with a top 10 pick who is decent as a gimmick running back and fake end arounder
